I'll leave you with this. The popularity of music is at an all time high, you see it in advertisting, movies, all over every day life, so how can it be that the value is at an all time low?In an age where CD sales are constantly declining and the ability to go on the internet and reach billions of consumers is at an all-time high, I caught up with one forward thinker: founder of SoundLoadMusic, Mr. Trey Wilson. He breaks down how his website effects the sale of CD's and how it will revolutionize the music industry tremendously. If you are an artist, please hit the comment section and tell us what you think about this.illRoots.com: So why do you think the music industry sales have been on a steady decline?
Trey: They've been on a steady decline since the internet became a place you could find media, mainly music.
illRoots.com: Explain the significance of your site
Trey: The majors had chance to stop all the picracy by learning from Napster and file sshearing networks instead they turned they're back on it. ow people are going to the internet for everything, if you don't believe how many people are into being online, type in your address in My Space and see.
illRoots.com: So what is Soundloadmusic.com?
Trey: SoundLoad Music is the next progression in bridging the digital and the physical. We as musicians need a better value then a compact disk. We just had to make technology work for us.
illRoots.com:Okay but how exactly does it work?
Trey: With SoundLoad cards, you are guiding traffic to YOUR website or YOUR my space page, we give you an ICON to post that "REDEEM MY SOUNDLOAD CARD HERE" the consumer clicks on that and it brings them to a generic download page they scratch off the back, which is similar to a pre-paid phone card. If the number is correct, it will unlock the download of your material. You get credit for the sale 1 album through Nielsen Soundscan. Its just like selling the consumer a cd, you are just buying product wholesale, you retail the customer your self. At a much better value then a cd. The cards are extremely less expensive then spending the money to manufacture compact discs. You get more for you money and your building a true brand by letting the consumer see that there is a central destination on the internet to see everything about the artist. The card is the vehicle that drives the consumer directly to YOUR site. Try getting someone to remember you by just putting up a flyer.
illRoots.com: So you buy the cards and each card represents one album through nielsen soundscan, now does it matter if there is only 1 song, then will you get an entire album sale for that?
Trey: Yes, that is one album, but ONLY when you sell to the consumer and they redeem it through your website. Our service is set up to recognize certain unrealistic numbers. So if you are truly "selling product out of the trunk of your car" you can get credit for it. You may have heat in the street and no one even knows.
illRoots.com: So hypathetically speaking, how much would it take for a million copies...to show platinum on soundscan?
Trey: 1 million sold, you would get credit for 1 million records sold. When you fill out the Soundscan Title addition form, you would fill in if it was a single or a full album. Either can be done on a SoundLoad Music card.
illRoots.com: No...these cards are 35 cents a piece if I buy 1 million cards to get sold, your telling me that all these get downloaded and it only comes out to $350,000 out of pocket in contrast to a much larger range for a cd
Trey: Yes, thats the power of being able to market your OWN material, you see less and less how Major lables aren't needed as much. The internet leveled the playing field.
illRoots.com: So have talked to any majors about this because this seems to be a lucrative idea
Trey: I am in the process of some talks. I came from an independent background, this company was created because we needed it and new that other people could benefit from it, there is so much great talent out there that should be marketed the RIGHT WAY.I'll leave you with this, the popularity of music is at an all time high, you see it in advertisting, movies, all over every day life, so how can it be that the value is at an all time low?
illRoots.com: So this has been a pleasure my good friend this idea seems to be more than important but crucial to making an impact in consuming music from the recording industry. If this doesn't catch on then people would be crazy.
