illRoots.com: Hello?
Mickey Factz: Hello?
illRoots.com: Mickey….
Mickey Factz: Who’s this?
illRoots.com: Hallway..
Mickey Factz: My dude..what’s poppin’
illRoots.com: First off I got to thank for the interview as usual it is a pleasure talking to the incomparable Mickey Factz.
Mickey Factz: You already know.
illRoots.com: Who is Mickey Factz?
Mickey Factz: Mickey Factz is the epitome of greatness. He is basically, he is at the forefront in the shift of the paradox of music and I’m everything that everybody is looking for right now.
illRoots.com: Great, so you said your everything that everybody wants right now, what is that?
Mickey Factz: Everybody wants artistry people want to be able gravitate toward something and I feel like people aren’t gravitating toward what’s out there right now. People are just being subject of what’s being spoon fed to them. So you know me being the artist that I am you know I am what the fore fathers wanted hip hop to be in 2008, 2009 and the future,. The lane that I’m in and the lane that I’m going to I’m trying to take hip-hop to next level never abandoning what I love but just expanding on what hasn’t been touched yet.

illRoots.com: So, Mickey Factz the artist, What about Mickey Factz the person?
Mickey Factz: Mickey Factz the person is a humanitarian. Mickey Factz the person is a person that is cocky but he’s human. So its like you know, I’m human, I see people who struggle everyday I see bums I see homeless people, I see pregnant woman with no husbands and I can relate to it and it hits me. Also I also live my life I’m one cocky dude with a crazy swagger, I’m just a stylish guy, I’m somebody who just loves attention. I’m somebody who just has to be in the limelight that’s who Mickey Factz the person is I’m someone who always has to be in the limelight and I’m do anything for that.
illRoots.com: So do you feel that is somewhat of a curse and gift at the same time?

Mickey Factz: Yea you know everything is a gift and a curse in every aspect of life you know. I mean everything that can be gift can be a curse. Like rapping is my gift and its also my curse because rap is my job and since rap is my job there is people who don’t get to see Mickey Factz the person as they want to see it. Like me and my mom we don’t talk because I rarely see her. I have relatives that I haven’t seen in months because I’m being what I’m trying to be. I’m following my dream so because of this that’s my curse and it kills me, but I have to keep doing what I have to do, because if I don’t do it, nobody else is going to do it for me.
illRoots.com: What new projects are you working on?
Mickey Factz: Right now I’m looking at doing my EP and my mixtape. My mixtape will be dropping in April if I’m not mistaken, I’ve got a best of Mickey coming out in February then again in April I’m coming out with the mixtape “Itz Mickey” that’s the mixtape before the album. The album/ EP we’re not decided yet what its going to be, the album is going to be called Itz Mickey and its probably going to be coming out around the summertime. I’m also going to be giving the fans more visual on YouTube, more videos there’s going to be more. Its going to be a blast, I’m going to be seen in more magazines I’m going to be on more websites, more blogs, more features, there’s a lot of surprises for the 08’, 07’ was great but 08’ is going be even better.

illRoots.com: One of my favorite tracks on Heaven’s Fallout was a song called “Jacob’s Ladder” could you explain more about that?
Mickey Factz: That’s like one of my favorite tracks too man. I was talking to this chick at one point and I heard the beat and I said “I wanna right something about Jacob’s Ladder”. So I asked her to google Jacob’s ladder for me. So she googled Jacob’s Ladder and sent it back to me and I read it and I was like WOW!, this exactly what I was trying to do with Heaven’s Fallout. The purpose of Jacob’s Ladder is that it was ladder all the way up to heaven for falling angels and its just like wow. I feel like I’m the falling angel of hip hop that’s trying to take hip hop to the next level, and it just felt so right that I just get on a track sing but kick a different flow and just try to talk about something totally different like I just want to the forefront and take hip hop forward not bring it back.
illRoots.com: Right, right. Exactly. So we know there will be bigger Mickey Factz this year, you got the mushroom. Your not the little mickey factz you’re the big Mickey Factz. So is there any labels and when will we see a national debut?
Mickey Factz: Right now I’m looking for the best situation. I have labels that are interested right now and we have some leads. This year is gonna be worse because not because the labels fronted its just they didn’t want to take that chance. But now that the buzz is growing even more, we’re starting to get radio spins, magazine press is starting to pick up, the internet is buzzing crazy, blogs are hitting me up now. Now the labels are in trouble because now I’m going to come in there expecting to get what I want because I have a core fan base and they support me because I give them what they want. I love my fans and I give them what they want and I think a national release, outside of my album, if I don’t release my album independently because I have deal. Then we should expect my album to be nationally released from Mickey Factz definitely before winter time and I’m working on my album as we speak and all I can say is its mind blowing, Nothing that you’ve never heard. Seriously.
illRoots.com: Your life in one song what is it?
Mickey Factz: Oh mannn that’s crazy that’s a really good question actually. Yea that’s a dope question. I’m have to go to my ipod for this one. Lets see…hmmm. I would have to probably say it’s a cross between “Something about Us” that I did off Heaven’s Fallout and a song Ron Browz (Nas “Ether") produced for me called “Anymore” and these songs are definitely personal songs to me. Something about Us is about my love for music and music being one with me and just trying to get to where I have to get and its just something about me that helps me to connect even more. Anymore is about the depression and the stress that I go through on my daily life and me trying to overcome these situations.
illRoots.com: One emcee that we never heard of , the general public has never heard of, but overall is one of your favorite emcees.
Mickey Factz: I would have to say Drizz Mami, she is the quintessential female artist, she lyrically is like amazing we’ve done tracks together where I have had to literally rewrite verses 5 or 6 times.
illRoots.com: Well, one thing that you want to be remembered by?
Mickey Factz: I want people to remember me by my legacy, the way that I just spoke from my heart literally. I want people to know that when they heard my music they heard me. They heard real music, they heard somebody who wasn’t conforming to what others were doing. He just went out and was himself, all his flaws were laid out for everybody. All his triumphs, all his lost loves, everything all the depression was laid out to see what a man is.
