We recently linked up with legendary New York Skater Ian Reid and besides giving us his take on music we found out Ian Reid is ________..... Find out what the answer in our exclusive interview with the man himself. Oh, and go buy Ian Reid's Video.illRoots.com: Ok, first off let me do this right...Thank you for your time and efforts- definitely a pleasure.
Ian: Well thank you.
illRoots.com: So who gives a fuck about Ian Reid?
Ian: My family, niggas in my hood and my dude BW.
illRoots.com: What is skating to you?
Ian: Um, its riding a skateboard, not just HOLDING a board by the fuckin' trucks.
illRoots.com: Very well put my good sir. So when was the first time you said "This is what I'm going to be doing for the rest of my life"?
Ian: Never.
illRoots.com: Advice to live by?
Ian: Have fun & trust your 1st instinct.. and stay real wit' ya self.
illRoots.com: So throughout all of your traveling around the globe, what was the most interesting thing you've EVER seen or heard?
Ian: A hooker on drugs in Spain said she would suck my dick for 2 euro's. I said "No the fuck you won’t."
Go Have Some Fuckin Fun Ian Reid Said So.
illRoots.com: Over the years, skating has became more integrated into everyday culture. Being a pioneer, explain why you think things have changed?
Ian: Rap music & hipsters.
illRoots.com: How so...you mind going into detail?
Ian: It’s hard to say.
illRoots.com: I mean too me being a hip hop head, it seems that over time our community just adopts more and more cultures 'till you have people not knowing who is real.
Ian: Well... all it really is was they FINALLY caught up to what we been doing. Riding a skateboard was around before hip-hop, before internet blogs and all that shit REAL skateboarders don’t pick up because they saw a music video and somebody was posing with a board. Those who do pick it up because of that quit within a year cause they see how hard it is.
illRoots.com: Who do you think is the most underrated skater of all-time?
Ian: Eli Reed, Eugene Williams, Chris Schifone. Top 3 MOST under rated.
illRoots.com: Greatest place in the world no one knows about?
Ian: I dunno, thats a hard question. Everybody knows about it to a degree
'cause fools live there.
illRoots.com: So who’s in the iPod?
Ian: 8Ball & MJG, Jay-Z, 50, Metallica, Black Moon, Fabolous, Stevie Wonder, Rick Ross, The Lox, Bun-B, Public Enemy.
illRoots.com: So hip hop is really bullshit right now to alot of people who love it. Why do you think things are so watered down?
Ian: It's not bullshit at all. I dunno why people keep sayin that. Shit is alive-n-kickin as always man. Whats watered down about it? It's just like anything. When too many CORNY ass people get involved it gets flooded with bullshit so all you gotta do is seek out the dope shit .. and its plenty of dope shit still comin' out.
illRoots.com: I think people now look at what was the "golden era" of hip hop and forget that there was wack music back then too.
Ian: Exactly, there was mad wack shit back then. I’m not gonna go into detail but it was SO many 1 hit wonders.
illRoots.com: Here's a question that I could pose that may have people wondering. In todays music game would a blind piano player even be given a chance to make it mainstream? Would Ray Charles be given a chance today with the way commerce dictates art?
Ian: Man at the end of everything.. IF YOU DOPE, YOU DOPE.. people can't even front on that shit. Blind, 1 arm, no arms, 1 leg, no legs, if you dope they WILL notice.
illRoots.com: Finish this sentence for me than i'm done. Ian Reid is ________.
Ian: Havin’ fun almost everyday, I think you should be doin the same thing.
As always you can go get Ian Reid's Video and to everyone please be true to yourselves. This is Hallway and I'm out.
