KGB of Latchkey dropped this too me just now and this is pretty dope after the jump catch Wreckonize's (of Mayday) unreleased solo effort along with the entire backstory of said album and the production credits are pretty solid from Jake One to Ty Fyffe.
In 2004 I signed to an upstart label called Southbeat records here in Miami. I began immediately crafting what at the time I thought would be my debut full length LP. Before Southbeat had their studio built, i traveled to NY to work with the likes of Emile, Reef, Pray-on, and scoop up beat cd's from Premier and Alchemist (Unfortunately nothing solid came of that). Then I would travel to the west coast to work with JR in LA. Before leaving the west i knocked out a session with one of my favorite emcees, the legendary Ras Kass. I then traveled back to miami to work with Streetrunner and other members of the home team including my buddy plexo and sharpie. After adding a Dj Spinna track and a feature from Vinia Mojica i thought I was approaching completion on what I felt was a decent attempt at a 21 yr old's solo debut. I would unfortunately learn later that through bad management of label planning and funds my budget would be cut short mid project and my release date pushed back.....waaaaay back.... I cut back to focus more on in-house production with sharp, plex, and bern to realize that the shuffle of the "buy a beat and rap on it" atmosphere was pretty damn toxic. The last upset was to learn that the intro for the album I had lined up with Jake one wasn't paid for and probably wasn't going to be....ever.....So my last task almost 3 years from my signing date was to try and make a dope intro appear out of thin air....I would later 4 years from signing get my release from the label...I was the first artist to sign to Southbeat and the last to be released..... Needless to say it was a hell of a journey and now, another 2 years later when listening to the music I can hear some of the frustration in the material. Through a lot of this project I wasn't comfortable when being forced into a box and it shows....
and now to the point!......I'm writing this to prologue me posting it up for anyone who's interested in checking it out. A friend asked me for a copy and as I was putting it together I realized there were some vibes I still enjoyed and I did work my ass off at trying to put it all together so I might as well share it with my 305ers and anyone else in cyberspace who cares to take a listen. I learned a hell of a lot in this extremely frustrating but fun life cycle and wouldn't trade it for the world. For anyone who's ever enjoyed any of my music......While I'm finishing up the next mayday project and wrapping up my actual first proper solo release (on my terms)...Check out what wasn't meant to be and what I could do nothing with....but learn.....Some you might dig....some you might not.............Ez
