After the death of his best friend Chad Butler better known as Pimp C, everyone wanted to know if Bun-B would step up to the plate and put out the best album he could in honor of his friend. After his 2006 release Trill, Bun-B left most of his fans very pleased. The question is can he do the same with his latest release II Trill?II Trill includes many of raps top producers including Scott Storch, Jazze Pha, J.R. Rotem, DJ Khalil, & Clinton Sparks. The lead single on the album is That’s Gangsta featuring Sean Kingston and produced by the great J.R. Rotem. The song features a hot beat from Rotem and some sick lyrics as he explains about fake gangstas who put their past behind them when they get big in the world and they don’t stay true to their hood. The only thing bad about this song is Sean Kingston on the chorus. Since when is Sean Kingston a gangsta?

The album introduction is called “II Trill” and it features Z-Ro and J. Prince as well as a Clinton Sparks beat. Bun just rips it on this track as flow and lyrics are just sick. He talks about how people try to get on him and he says how much better he is than all his haters. One of the great songs on the album is “Swang on Em” featuring Lupe Fiasco. Lupe completely rips it on this track and he raps very fast which is very unusual from Lupe as we usually see him rapping rather slowly. Bun B could of stepped it up a a little bit more than what he brought to the table because his delivery just wasn’t that good on this. Now its time to get to my favorite track on the album “If I Die II Night” featuring Lyfe Jennings & Young Buck. If you couldn’t figure it out by the title, this is a tribute song to Pimp C. Lyfe Jennings does an amazing job on the chorus to let you feel the emotional vibe the song gives you about losing a great rapper. This is one of a few tracks dedicated to Pimp C. Another track that really caught attention to my ears is “Angel In The Sky” featuring Lil’ Razah. This song has more meaning to it than “If I Die II Night” because Bun B explains all the good memories he had with Chad and now he just disappeared out of his life. In the first verse Bun B really tells a story with words and he does such a good job you feel his pain just by his vocal expression. The only song that features the late Pimp C is called “Underground Thang”. Chamillionaire does a good job on the chorus and Bun B has some great punch lines in his verses, As far as Pimp C’s verse goes, it is an amazing verse he has some nasty punch lines and it really makes you miss the fact that he’s no longer with us.
Some other featured guests on the album are Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, 8 Ball and MJG, David Banner, Webbie, Juvenile, & Junior Reid. All of them did a pretty good job and Lil’ Wayne had some nice lines about Chad in the song “Damn I’m Cold”. Scott Storch produced one of the few solo songs Bun B has on the album called “I Luv That. It has a typical Scott Storch club banger beat and right away I can tell this song will be a hit in clubs across America once DJ’s start hearing it. One last song I want to talk about is “Another Solider” featuring the Middle Fingerz. This song features the best beat throughout the entire album it really makes you just want to bob your head from the beginning all the way to the end. Hats off the DJ Khalil to make this tight beat.
II Trill was defiantly a good album and I recommend you support Bun B and Pimp C and go buy the album at your local CD store. This album featured topics about living in the hood from being a gangsta to the death of his best friend. The only thing I would stay away from is “Good II Me”. It is not a very good song and it probably has the worst beat and lyrics on the album, but other than that it was a great album.
