Recently it was confirmed that New York City will grant rights to the construction of an underground park in the Lower East Side. The initiative was lead by Dan Barasch and James Ramsey, former engineer and architect formerly employed by NASA. The project is estimated to cost $80 Million, and has passed tests throughout the past year which confirms the technology of the park possible. The Lowline park will be located at Williamsburg Bridge Trolley Terminal, and if all goes according to plan will begin construction in 2018. For more information, visit WSJ.
