Over the past few weeks we've hit you with several Common remixes from K-Salaam & Beatnick. As many of you know, we are dropping exclusively the entire collection plus some extras as Beatnick & K-Salaam's STORY (Stories Told Over Remixed Years). So far every remix has been fire but this one is really dope. As well, this song was one of my favorites by Common.
Shout out to Dan over at OKP for posting a breakdown of 8 tracks that Common & DJ Semtek ran through. After the jump, check it outDJ SEMTEK's Breakdown of 8 Tracks off Common's "Invincible Summer"
UNIVERSAL MIND CONTROL
C’mon you know about this one right? I’ve been blazing it on my show for months. It’s a banger!
Common said that he was influenced by the UK club scene on this one.
THE ANNOUNCEMENT (FEAT PHARRELL)
I’ve been blazing this for a while too, one of the best tribute songs to the Notorious B.I.G.
Common kills this, there is no doubt that he is one of the best lyricists in the game, and no he didn’t write Pharrell’s verse.
THE GLADIATOR
Raw pounding HipHop.
This is similar to ‘I Gotta Right ta’, in terms of the vibe and the Neptunes are on the beats. This is Common in the zone, and doing what he does best on the mic. I would hate to be an MC when he’s in the room. Easily one of the best joints of the album, you’re gonna’ love this joint.
Common performed this live too.
CHANGES
Common said that he hoped that this would be the victory anthem for Barack Obama, when he is elected President, so you already know what this joint is about.
This is a very inspirational song detailing the need for change in the world, and America.
Common’s daughter recites the poem at the end of the track too.
WHAT A WORLD (FEAT. CHESTER FRENCH)
Produced by the Neptunes.
This has that HipHop meets rock kind of vibe.
Its good, but its gonna’ go over the heads of the heads.
Will be huge in private members clubs out here, especially with the kind of girls that Pharrell raps about on ‘Everyone Nose’.
SEX SUGAR
Neptunes on the beats. Similar to ‘Give It Up’ by Twista, this is the club joint. Common spits for the ladies on this one. This is cool, but I prefer Common when he spits the hard sh*t.
This is built for the clubs though.
MAKE MY DAY (FEAT CEE-LO)
MrDJ on the beats.
This is an absolute banger! This is a very futuristic uplifting track. This is some next level crack.
I hate doing analogies on tracks, but it has that same kind of feel as ‘Millionaire’ by Kelis and Andre 3000.
PUNCH DRUNK LOVE (FEAT KANYE WEST)
If i’m not mistaken, this features Kanye West on the hook.
I need to hear this one again before I pass judgement on it. I was distracted by someone whilst this joint was playing.
There’s still 2 more tracks to be added to the album, but it sounds hot and the overall feel is pretty dynamic. Considering its Common’s 8th album, Common is probably only 2nd to Hov in terms of consistency when it comes to good albums.
